For over a decade, the counselor-to-camper ratio has remained 1:2 to ensure individualized mentoring and instruction. At the end of every session, each camper is evaluated on academic performance and overall character development. Parents and guardians receive these evaluations to share with campers and teachers, which they can reference throughout the year.
Over a decade ago, Camp Dogwood Summer Academy began as a dream. Today, the dream comes to life every summer in the Virginia countryside where youth and young adults are encouraged to work, play, grow, and imagine dreams of their own.
Courtesy, Cooperation, Caring, & Concern
The 4 C’s are the cornerstones of our program.
We place a strong emphasis that campers take ownership of their actions and treat each other and staff with care and respect. We strive to make Camp Dogwood a space of acceptance, learning, and transformation.
Camp Dogwood provides stimulating, handson lessons, allowing campers to take an active role in their education. Lessons focus on critical thinking and exploration in topics including: reading, writing, analysis, leadership, community service, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Campers participate in one field trip per 2-week session and are visited by guest speakers.
TRADITIONAL CAMP ACTIVITIES
Camper are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of traditional summer camp activities such as art, swimming, tennis, sports and games, cooking, music, dance, and storytelling. Campers help feed the farm animals, maintain clean camp grounds, and spend time in the camp’s garden. Through diverse, cross-curricular programming and a dedicated staff, we aim to make Camp Dogwood a place of growth, excitement, and fun.
FRIENDSHIP & FUN
